Parshat: Bere'shiyth (Genesis) 44:18 - 47:27
Then Yahudah came near unto him, and said: Oh my adoniy, let your servant, I pray you, speak a word in my adoniy's ears, and let not your anger burn against your servant: for you are even as Phar`oh. 19 My adoniy asked his servants, saying: Have ye a father, or a brother? 20 And we said unto my el-adoniy: We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loves him. 21 And you said unto your servants: Bring him down unto me, that I may set my eyes upon him. 22 And we said unto my el-adoniy: The lad cannot leave his father: for if he should leave his father, his father would die. 23 And you said unto your servants: Except your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more. 24 And it came to pass when we came up unto your servant my father, we told him את the words of my adoniy. 25 And our father said: Go again and buy us a little food. 26 And we said: We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man's face, except our youngest brother be with us. 27 And your servant my father said unto us: Ye know that my woman bore me two sons: 28 And the one went out from me, and I said: Surely, he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since: 29 And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to She'ol. 30 Now therefore when I come to your servant my father, and the lad be not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad's life; 31 It shall come to pass, when he sees that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and your servants shall bring down the gray hairs of your servant our father with sorrow to She'ol. 32 For your servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying: If I bring him not unto you, then I shall bear the blame to my father forever. 33 Now therefore, I pray you, let your servant abide instead of the lad a bondman to my adoniy; and let the lad go up with his brethren. 34 For how shall I go up to my father, and the lad be not with me? Lest perchance I see the evil that shall come on my father.
CHAPTER 45
Then Yoceph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried: Cause every man to go out from me. And there stood no man with him, while Yoceph made himself known unto his brethren. 2 And he wept aloud: and the Mitsriym and the house of Phar`oh heard. 3 And Yoceph said unto his brethren, I am Yoceph; does my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him; for they were troubled at his presence. 4 And Yoceph said unto his brethren: Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Yoceph your brother, whom ye sold into Mitsrayim. 5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for Elohiym did send me before you to preserve life. 6 For these two years has the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. 7 And Elohiym sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. 8 So now it was not you that sent me hither, but Elohiym: and he has made me a father to Phar`oh, and adon of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Mitsrayim. 9 Haste ye, and go up to my father, and say unto him: Thus says your son Yoceph, Elohiym has made me adon of all Mitsrayim: come down unto me, tarry not: 10 And you shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near unto me, you, and your children, and your children's children, and your flocks, and your herds, and all that you have: 11 And there will I nourish you; for yet there are five years of famine; lest you, and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty. 12 And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Binyamiyn, that it is my mouth that speaks unto you. 13 And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Mitsrayim, and of all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither. 14 And he fell upon his brother Binyamiyn's neck, and wept; and Binyamiyn wept upon his neck. 15 Moreover he kissed all his brethren and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him.
16 And the fame thereof was heard in Phar`oh's house, saying: Yoceph's brethren are come: and it pleased Phar`oh well, and his servants. 17 And Phar`oh said unto El-Yoceph: Say unto your brethren: This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the land of Kena`an; 18 And take your father and your households, and come unto me: and I will give you the good of the land of Mitsrayim, and ye shall eat the fat of the land. 19 Now you are commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Mitsrayim for your little ones, and for your women, and bring your father, and come. 20 Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Mitsrayim is yours. 21 And the children of Yashar'el did so: and Yoceph gave them wagons, according to the commandment of Phar`oh, and gave them provision for the way. 22 To all of them he gave each man changes of raiment; but to Binyamiyn he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of raiment. 23 And to his father he sent after this manner; ten asses laden with the good things of Mitsrayim, and ten she asses laden with grain and bread and meat for his father by the way. 24 So he sent his brethren away, and they departed: and he said unto them: See that ye fall not out by the way.
25 And they went up out of Mitsrayim and came into the land of Kena`an unto El-Ya`aqov their father, 26 And told him, saying: Yoceph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Mitsrayim. And Ya`aqov's heart fainted, for he believed them not. 27 And they told him את all the words of Yoceph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Yoceph had sent to carry him, the ruach of Ya`aqov their father revived: 28 And Yashar'el said: It is enough; Yoceph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die.
CHAPTER 46
And Yashar'el took his journey with all that he had, and came to Be`er Sheva, and offered sacrifices unto the Elohiym of his father Yitschaq. 2 And Elohiym spoke unto Yashar'el in the visions of the night, and said, Ya`aqov, Ya`aqov. And he said: Here am I. 3 And he said, I am El, the Elohai of your father: fear not to go down into Mitsrayim; for I will there make of you a great nation: 4 I will go down with you into Mitsrayim; and I will also surely bring you up again: and Yoceph shall put his hand upon your eyes. 5 And Ya`aqov rose up from Be`er Sheva: and the sons of Yashar'el carried Ya`aqov their father, and their little ones, and their women, in the wagons which Phar`oh had sent to carry him. 6 And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Kena`an, and came into Mitsrayim, Ya`aqov, and all his seed with him: 7 His sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Mitsrayim.
8 And these are the names of the children of Yashar'el, which came into Mitsrayim, Ya`aqov and his sons: Re'uven, Ya`aqov's firstborn. 9 And the sons of Re'uven; Chanoch, and Pallu, and Chetsron, and Karmiy.
10 And the sons of Shim`on; Yemu'el, and Yamiyn, and Ohad, and Yakiyn, and Tsochar, and Sha'ul the son of a Kena`aniy woman.
11 And the sons of Leviy; Gershon, Qohath, and Merariy.
12 And the sons of Yahudah; Er, and Onan, and Shelach, and Perets, and Zerach: but Er and Onan died in the land of Kena`an. And the sons of Perets were Chetsron and Chamul.
13 And the sons of Yisshakar; Tola, and Pu'ah, and Yov, and Shimron.
14 And the sons of Zevulun; Cered, and Eylon, and Yachle'el. 15 These be the sons of Le'ah, which she bore unto Ya`aqov in Paddan Aram, את with his daughter Diynah: all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty and three.
16 And the sons of Gad; Tsiphyon, and Chaggiy, Shuniy, and Etsbon, Eriy, and Arodiy, and Ar'eliy.
17 And the sons of Asher; Yimnah, and Yishvah, and Yishviy, and Beriy`ah, and Serach their sister: and the sons of Beriy`ah; Chever, and Malkiy'el. 18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Lavan gave to Le'ah his daughter, and these she bore unto Ya`aqov, even sixteen souls. 19 The sons of Rachel Ya`aqov's woman; Yoceph, and Binyamiyn.
20 And unto Yoceph in the land of Mitsrayim were born Menashsheh and Ephrayim, which Acenath the daughter of Potiy Phera priest of On bore unto him.
21 And the sons of Binyamiyn were Bela, and Beker, and Ashbel, Gera, and Na`aman, Echiy, and Ro'sh, Muppiym, and Chuppiym, and Ard. 22 These are the sons of Rachel, which were born to Ya`aqov: all the souls were fourteen.
23 And the sons of Dan; Chushiym.
24 And the sons of Naphtaliy; Yachtse'el, and Guniy, and Yetser, and Shillem. 25 These are the sons of Bilhah, which Lavan gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she bore these unto Ya`aqov: all the souls were seven. 26 All the souls that came with Ya`aqov into Mitsrayim, which came out of his loins, besides Ya`aqov's sons' women, all the souls were threescore and six; 27 And the sons of Yoceph, which were born him in Mitsrayim, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Ya`aqov, which came into Mitsrayim, were threescore and ten.
28 And he sent Yahudah before him unto El-Yoceph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen. 29 And Yoceph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Yashar'el his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while. 30 And Yashar'el said unto El-Yoceph, Now let me die, since I have seen your face, because you are yet alive. 31 And Yoceph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and show Phar`oh, and say unto him: My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Kena`an, are come unto me; 32 And the men are shepherds, for their trade has been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have. 33 And it shall come to pass, when Phar`oh shall call you, and shall say: What is your occupation? 34 That ye shall say: Your servants' trade has been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Mitsriym.
CHAPTER 47
Then Yoceph came and told Phar`oh, and said: My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Kena`an; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen. 2 And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Phar`oh. 3 And Phar`oh said unto his brethren: What is your occupation? And they said unto Phar`oh: Your servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers. 4 They said moreover unto Phar`oh: For to sojourn in the land are we come; for your servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Kena`an: now therefore, we pray you, let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen. 5 And Phar`oh spoke unto El-Yoceph, saying: Your father and your brethren are come unto you: 6 The land of Mitsrayim is before you; in the best of the land make your father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if you know any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle. 7 And Yoceph brought in Ya`aqov his father and set him before Phar`oh: and Ya`aqov blessed Phar`oh. 8 And Phar`oh said unto El-Ya`aqov: How old are you? 9 And Ya`aqov said unto Phar`oh: The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage. 10 And Ya`aqov blessed Phar`oh and went out from before Phar`oh.
11 And Yoceph placed his father and his brethren and gave them a possession in the land of Mitsrayim, in the best of the land, in the land of Ra`amcec, as Phar`oh had commanded. 12 And Yoceph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household, with bread, according to their families.
13 And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very of Kena`an fainted by reason of the famine. 14 And Yoceph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Mitsrayim, and in the land of Kena`an, for the grain which they bought: and Yoceph brought the money into Phar`oh's house. 15 And when money failed in the land of Mitsrayim, and in the land of Kena`an, all the Mitsriym came unto El-Yoceph, and said: Give us bread: for why should we die in your presence? For the money fails. 16 And Yoceph said: Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail. 17 And they brought their cattle unto El-Yoceph: and Yoceph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year. 18 When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him: We will not hide it from my adoniy, how that our money is spent; my el-adoniy also has our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my adoniy, but our bodies, and our lands: 19 Wherefore shall we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Phar`oh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate. 20 And Yoceph bought all the land of Mitsrayim for Phar`oh; for the Mitsriym sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Phar`oh's. 21 And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Mitsrayim even to the other end thereof. 22 Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Phar`oh and did eat their portion which Phar`oh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands. 23 Then Yoceph said unto the people: Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Phar`oh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land. 24 And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Phar`oh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones. 25 And they said: You have saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my adoniy, and we will be Phar`oh's servants. 26 And Yoceph made it a law over the land of Mitsrayim unto this day, that Phar`oh should have the fifth part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Phar`oh's.
27 And Yashar'el dwelt in the land of Mitsrayim, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.
Haftorah: Yechezq'el (Ezekiel) 37:15-28
The Word of Yahuah came again unto me, saying: 16 Moreover, son of A’dam, take you one stick, and write upon it, For Yahudah, and for the children of Yashar’el his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Yoceph, the stick of Ephrayim, and for all the house of Yashar’el his companions: 17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in your hand.
18 And when the children of your people shall speak unto you, saying: Will you not show us what you mean by these? 19 Say unto them: Thus says Adonai Yahuah; Behold, I will take the stick of Yoceph, which is in the hand of Ephrayim, and the tribes of Yashar’el his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Yahudah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in my hand.
20 And the sticks whereon you write shall be in your hand before their eyes. 21 And say unto them: Thus says Adonai Yahuah; Behold, I will take the children of Yashar’el from among the heathen, wherever they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: 22 And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Yashar’el; and one King shall be King to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms anymore at all: 23 Neither shall they defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwelling places, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their Elohiym. 24 And David my Servant shall be King over them; and they all shall have one Shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and guard my statutes, and do them. 25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Ya`aqov my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children's children forever: and my Servant David shall be their Prince forever. 26 Moreover I will cut a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them forevermore. 27 My Tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their Elohiym, and they shall be my people. 28 And the heathen shall know that I Yahuah do sanctify Yashar’el, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them forevermore.
Besorah: Yochanon (John) 5:1-47
After this there was a Feast of the Yahudiym; and Yahusha went up to Yerushalayim. 2 Now there is at Yerushalayim by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Ivriyt tongue Beyt Checed, having five porches. 3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. 5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years. 6 When Yahusha saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he said unto him: Will you be made whole? 7 The impotent man answered him: Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steps down before me. 8 Yahusha said unto him: Rise, take up your bed, and walk. 9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Shabbath.
10 The Yahudiym therefore said unto him that was cured: It is the Shabbath: it is not Lawful for you to carry your bed. 11 He answered them: He that made me whole, the same said unto me: Take up your bed and walk. 12 Then asked they him: What man is that which said unto you: Take up your bed, and walk? 13 And he that was healed knew not who it was: for Yahusha had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place. 14 Afterward Yahusha finds him in the Temple, and says unto him: Behold, you are made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto you. 15 The man departed, and told the Yahudiym that it was Yahusha, which had made him whole. 16 And therefore did the Yahudiym persecute Yahusha, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the Shabbath.
17 But Yahusha answered them, My Father works hitherto, and I work. 18 Therefore the Yahudiym sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the Shabbath, but said also that Elohiym was his Father, making himself equal with Elohiym. 19 Then answered Yahusha and said unto them: Amein, Amein, I say unto you: The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees את the Father do: for what things soever he does, these also does the Son likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all things that he himself does: and he will show him greater works than these, that ye may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises up the dead and quickens them; even so the Son quickens whom he will. 22 For the Father judges no man but has committed all judgment unto the Son: 23 That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honors not the Son honors not the Father which has sent him. 24 Amein, Amein, I say unto you: He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 25 Amein, Amein, I say unto you: The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of Elohiym: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself; so has he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of A’dam. 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. 30 I can of my own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which has sent me. 31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
32 There is another that bears witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesses of me is true. 33 Ye sent unto Yahuchanon, and he bore witness unto the Truth. 34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved. 35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
36 But I have greater witness than that of Yahuchanon: for the works which the Father has given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me. 37 And the Father himself, which has sent me, has borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. 38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he has sent, him ye believe not.
39 Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. 41 I receive not honor from men. 42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of Elohiym in you. 43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. 44 How can ye believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that comes from Elohiym only? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuses you, even Mosheh, in whom ye trust. 46 For had ye believed Mosheh, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. 47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
