Parshat: Bere’shiyth (Genesis) 6:9 - 11:32
These are the generations of Noach: Noach was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noach walked with Elohiym. 10 And Noach begat three sons, Shem, Cham, and Yapheth. 11 The earth also was corrupt before Elohiym, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And Elohiym looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. 13 And Elohiym said unto Noach: The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
14 Make you an ark of gopher wood; rooms shall you make in the ark and shall pitch it within and without with pitch. 15 And this is the fashion which you shall make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window shall you make to the ark, and in a cubit shall you finish it above; and the door of the ark shall you set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shall you make it. 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and everything that is in the earth shall die. 18 But with you will I establish my covenant; and you shall come into the ark, you, and your sons, and your woman, and your sons' women with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shall you bring into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto you, to keep them alive. 21 And take unto you of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to you; and it shall be for food for you, and for them. 22 Thus did Noach; according to all that Elohiym commanded him, so did he.
CHAPTER 7
And Yahuah said unto Noach: Come you and all your house into the ark; for you have I seen righteous before me in this generation. 2 Of every clean beast you shall take to you by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. 3 Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth. 4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth. 5 And Noach did according unto all that Yahuah commanded him. 6 And Noach was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noach went in, and his sons, and his woman, and his sons' women with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of everything that creeps upon the earth, 9 There went in two and two unto El-Noach into the ark, the male and the female, as Elohiym had commanded Noach. 10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noach’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 In the selfsame day entered Noach, and Shem, and Cham, and Yapheth, the sons of Noach, and Noach’s woman, and the three women of his sons with them, into the ark; 14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. 15 And they went in unto Noach into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. 16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as Elohiym had commanded him: and Yahuah shut him in. 17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bore up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. 18 And the waters prevailed and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. 20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. 21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth, and every man: 22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. 23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heavens; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noach only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. 24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days.
CHAPTER 8
And Elohiym remembered Noach, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and Elohiym made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged; 2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; 3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. 4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noach opened the window of the ark which he had made: 7 And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. 8 Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; 9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. 10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; 11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noach knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. 12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him anymore.
13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noach removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry. 14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.
15 And Elohiym spoke unto Noach, saying: 16 Go forth of the ark, you, and your woman, and your sons, and your sons' women with you. 17 Bring forth with you every living thing that is with you, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. 18 And Noach went forth, and his sons, and his woman, and his sons' women with him: 19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creeps upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark.
20 And Noach built an altar unto Yahuah; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered ascending smoke offerings on the altar. 21 And Yahuah smelled a sweet savor; and Yahuah said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground anymore for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite anymore everything living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
CHAPTER 9
And Elohiym blessed Noach and his sons, and said unto them: Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moves upon the earth, and upon all the fish of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be meat for you; even as the green herb, I have given you all things. 4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. 5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. 6 Whoso sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of Elohiym he made man. 7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
8 And Elohiym spoke unto Noach, and to his sons with him, saying: 9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; 10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. 11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off anymore by the waters of a flood; neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth. 12 And Elohiym said: This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between Elohiym and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17 And Elohiym said unto Noach: This is the sign of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
18 And the sons of Noach, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Cham, and Yapheth: and Cham is the father of Kena`an. 19 These are the three sons of Noach: and of them was the whole earth overspread. 20 And Noach began to be a husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21 And he drank of the wine and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22 And Cham, the father of Kena`an, את saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. 23 And Shem and Yapheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered את the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness. 24 And Noach awoke from his wine and knew את what his younger son had done unto him. 25 And he said: Cursed be Kena`an; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said: Blessed be Yahuah Elohai of Shem; and Kena`an shall be his servant. 27 Elohiym shall enlarge Yapheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Kena`an shall be his servant.
28 And Noach lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. 29 And all the days of Noach were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
CHAPTER 10
Now these are the generations of the sons of Noach, Shem, Cham, and Yapheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2 The sons of Yapheth; Gimer, and Magog, and Madai, and Yavan, and Tubal, and Meshek, and Thiyrac. 3 And the sons of Gimer; Ashkenaz, and Riyphath, and Togarmah. 4 And the sons of Yavan; Eliyshah, and Tarshiysh, Kittiym, and Dodaniym. 5 By these were the isles of the other nations divided in their lands; everyone after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.
6 And the sons of Cham; Kush, and Mitsrayim, and Put, and Kena`an. 7 And the sons of Kush; Ceva, and Chaviylah, and Cavta, and Ra`amah, and Cavteka: and the sons of Ra`amah; Sheva, and Dedan. 8 And Kush begat Nimrod: he began to be a warrior and hunter in the earth. 9 He was a warrior and a hunter before Yahuah: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the warrior hunter before Yahuah. 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erek, and Akkad, and Kalneh, in the land of Shin`ar. 11 Out of that land went forth Ashshur, and built Niyneveh, and the city Rechovoth, and Kelach, 12 And Recen between Niyneveh and Kelach: the same is a great city. 13 And Mitsrayim begat Ludiym, and Anamiym, and Lehaviym, and Naphtuchiym, 14 And Pathruciym, and Kacluchiym, (out of whom came Pelishtiym,) and Kaphtoriym.
15 And Kena`an begat Tsiydon his firstborn, and Cheth, 16 And the Yevuciy, and the Emoriy, and the Girgashiy, 17 And the Chivviy, and the Arqiy, and the Ciyniy, 18 And the Arvadiy, and the Tsemariy, and the Chamathiy: and afterward were the families of the Kena`aniym spread abroad. 19 And the border of the Kena`aniym was from Tsiydon, as you come to Gerar, unto Gaza; as you go, unto Cedom, and Amorah, and Admah, and Tseviym, even unto Lesha. 20 These are the sons of Cham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.
21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Yapheth the elder, even to him were children born. 22 The children of Shem; Eylam, and Ashshur, and Arpakshad, and Lud, and Aram. 23 And the children of Aram; Uts, and Chul, and Gether, and Mash. 24 And Arpakshad begat Shelach; and Shelach begat Eber. 25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Yoqtan. 26 And Yoqtan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Chatsarmaveth, and Yerach, 27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diqlah, 28 And Oval, and Aviyma’el, and Sheva, 29 And Ophiyr, and Chaviylah, and Yovav: all these were the sons of Yoqtan. 30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as you go unto Cephar a mountain of the east. 31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. 32 These are the families of the sons of Noach, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
CHAPTER 11
And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shin`ar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another: Go, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 4 And they said: Go, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto the heavens; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And Yahuah came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built. 6 And Yahuah said: Behold, the people are one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined doing. 7 Go, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So Yahuah scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because Yahuah did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did Yahuah scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was a hundred years old, and begat Arpakshad two years after the flood: 11 And Shem lived after he begat Arpakshad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. 12 And Arpakshad lived five and thirty years, and begat Shelach: 13 And Arpakshad lived after he begat Shelach four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. 14 And Shelach lived thirty years, and begat Eber: 15 And Shelach lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. 16 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg: 17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters. 18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Re`u: 19 And Peleg lived after he begat Re`u two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters. 20 And Re`u lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug: 21 And Re`u lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters. 22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nachor: 23 And Serug lived after he begat Nachor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. 24 And Nachor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terach: 25 And Nachor lived after he begat Terach a hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters. 26 And Terach lived seventy years, and begat Avram, Nachor, and Haran.
27 Now these are the generations of Terach: Terach begat Avram, Nachor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. 28 And Haran died before his father Terach in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Kasdiym. 29 And Avram and Nachor took them women: the name of Avram’s woman was Sarai; and the name of Nachor's woman, Milkah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milkah, and the father of Yickah. 30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child. 31 And Terach took Avram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Avram’s woman; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Kasdiym, to go into the land of Kena`an; and they came unto Haran and dwelt there. 32 And the days of Terach were two hundred and five years: and Terach died in Haran.
Haftorah: Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 66:1-24
Thus says Yahuah: The heavens are my throne, and the earth is my footpath: where is the house that ye build unto me? And where is the place of my rest? 2 For all those things has my hand made, and all those things have been, says Yahuah: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite ruach, and trembles at my word. 3 He that kills an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrifices a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offers an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he that burns incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations. 4 I also will choose their delusions and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spoke, they did not hear: but they did evil before my eyes and chose that in which I delighted not.
5 Hear the Word of Yahuah, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said: Let Yahuah be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed. 6 A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the Temple, a voice of Yahuah that renders recompence to his enemies. 7 Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a male child. 8 Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Tsiyon travailed, she brought forth her children. 9 Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? Says Yahuah: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? Says your Elohiym. 10 Rejoice ye with Yerushalayim, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her: 11 That ye may suck and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out and be delighted with the abundance of her glory. 12 For thus says Yahuah: Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the other nations like a flowing stream: then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees. 13 As one whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Yerushalayim. 14 And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of Yahuah shall be known toward his servants, and his indignation toward his enemies. 15 For, behold, Yahuah will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For by fire and by his sword will Yahuah plead with all flesh: and the slain of Yahuah shall be many. 17 They that sanctify themselves and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, says Yahuah. 18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and see my glory. 19 And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshiysh, Pul, and Ludiy, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Yavan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the other nations. 20 And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto Yahuah out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Yerushalayim, says Yahuah, as the children of Yashar’el bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of Yahuah. 21 And I will also take of them for priests and for Leviyiym, says Yahuah. 22 For as the renewed heavens and the renewed earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, says Yahuah, so shall your seed and your name remain. 23 And it shall come to pass, that from New Moon to his New Moon, and from Shabbath to his Shabbath, shall all flesh come to worship before me, says Yahuah. 24 And they shall go forth and look upon the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.
Besorah: Luqas (Luke) 1:5-80
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Yahud, a certain priest named Zakaryahu, of the course of Aviyahu: and his woman was of the daughters of Aharon, and her name was Eliysheva. 6 And they were both righteous before Elohiym, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of Yahuah blameless. 7 And they had no child, because that Eliysheva was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. 8 And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before Elohiym in the order of his course, 9 According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the Temple of Yahuah. 10 And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. 11 And there appeared unto him an angel of Yahuah standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zakaryahu saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said unto him: Fear not, Zakaryahu: for your prayer is heard; and your woman Eliysheva shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Yahuchanon. 14 And you shall have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. 15 For he shall be great in the sight of Yahuah and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Ruach Ha’Qodesh, even from his mother's womb. 16 And many of the children of Yashar’el shall he turn to El-Yahuah Elohayhem. 17 And he shall go before him in the ruach and power of Eliyahu, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for Yahuah. 18 And Zakaryahu said unto the angel: Whereby shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my woman well stricken in years. 19 And the angel answering said unto him: I am Gavriy’el, that stand in the presence of Elohiym; and am sent to speak unto you, and to show you this good news. 20 And, behold, you shall be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because you believed not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. 21 And the people waited for Zakaryahu, and marveled that he tarried so long in the Temple. 22 And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the Temple: for he beckoned unto them and remained speechless. 23 And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house. 24 And after those days his woman Eliysheva conceived, and hid herself five months, saying: 25 Thus has Yah dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gavriy’el was sent from Elohiym unto a city of Galiyl, named Natsareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Yoceph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Miryam. 28 And the angel came near unto her, and said: Hail, you that are highly favored, Yahuah is with you: blessed are you את among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying: and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Miryam: for you have found favor with Elohiym. 31 And, behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Yahusha. 32 He shall be great and shall be called the Son of El Elyon: and Yahuah Elohiym shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Ya`aqov forever; and of his Kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Miryam unto the angel: How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her: The Ruach Ha’Qodesh shall come upon you, and the power of El Elyon shall overshadow you: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of Elohiym. 36 And, behold, your cousin Eliysheva, she has also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37 For with Elohiym nothing shall be impossible. 38 And Miryam said: Behold the handmaid of Yahuah; be it unto me according to your word. And the angel departed from her.
39 And Miryam arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Yahudah; 40 And entered into the house of Zakaryahu, and saluted Eliysheva. 41 And it came to pass, that, when Eliysheva heard the salutation of Miryam, the babe leaped in her womb; and Eliysheva was filled with the Ruach Ha’Qodesh: 42 And she spoke out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed are you את among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Adonai should come to me? 44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from Yahuah. 46 And Miryam said: My soul magnifies Yahuah, 47 And my ruach has rejoiced in Elohiym my Savior. 48 For he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 For he that is mighty has done to me great things; and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has showed strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He has put down the mighty from their seats and exalted them of low degree. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he has sent empty away. 54 He has helped his servant Yashar’el, in remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he spoke to our fathers, to Avraham, and to his seed forever.
56 And Miryam abode with her about three months and returned to her own house.
57 Now Eliysheva's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. 58 And her neighbors and her cousins heard how Yah had showed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her. 59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zakaryahu, after the name of his father. 60 And his mother answered and said: Not so; but he shall be called Yahuchanon. 61 And they said unto her: There is none of your kindred that is called by this name. 62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. 63 And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying: His name is Yahuchanon. And they marveled all. 64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, and praised Elohiym. 65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Yahud. 66 And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying: What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of Yahuah was with him. 67 And his father Zakaryahu was filled with the Ruach Ha’Qodesh, and prophesied, saying: 68 Blessed be Yahuah Elohiym of Yashar’el; for he has visited and redeemed his people, 69 And has raised up a horn of yeshu`ah for us in the house of his servant David; 70 As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 71 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72 To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73 The oath which he swore to our father Avraham, 74 That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 75 In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. 76 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of El Elyon: for you shall go before the face of Yahuah to prepare his ways; 77 To give knowledge of yeshu`ah unto his people by the remission of their sins, 78 Through the tender mercy of our Elohiym; whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us, 79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. 80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in the ruach, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Yashar’el.
