Parshat: Bemidbar (Numbers) 1:1 - 4:20
And Yahuah spoke unto Mosheh in the wilderness of Ciynai, in the Tabernacle of the assembly, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Mitsrayim, saying: 2 Take ye the sum of all the assembly of the children of Yashar’el, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls; 3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Yashar’el: you and Aharon shall number them by their armies. 4 And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers.
5 And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Re’uven; Eliytsur the son of Shedey’ur. 6 Of Shim`on; Shelumiy’el the son of Tsuriyshaddai.
7 Of Yahudah; Nachshon the son of Ammiynadav.
8 Of Yisshakar; Nethan’el the son of Tsu`ar.
9 Of Zevulun; Eliy’av the son of Chelon.
10 Of the children of Yoceph: of Ephrayim; Eliyshama the son of Ammiyhud: of Menashsheh; Gamliy’el the son of Pedahtsur.
11 Of Binyamiyn; Aviydan the son of Gid`oniy.
12 Of Dan; Achiy`ezer the son of Ammiyshaddai.
13 Of Asher; Pag`iy’el the son of Okran.
14 Of Gad; Elyacaph the son of De`u’el.
15 Of Naphtaliy; Achiyra the son of Eynan.
16 These were the renowned of the assembly, princes of the tribes of their fathers, heads of thousands in Yashar’el.
17 And Mosheh and Aharon את took these men which are expressed by their names: 18 And they assembled all the assembly together on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls. 19 As Yahuah commanded Mosheh, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Ciynai.
20 And the children of Re’uven, Yashar’el's eldest son, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 21 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Re’uven, were forty and six thousand and five hundred.
22 Of the children of Shim`on, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, those that were numbered of them, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 23 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Shim`on, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred.
24 Of the children of Gad, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 25 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Gad, were forty and five thousand six hundred and fifty.
26 Of the children of Yahudah, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 27 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Yahudah, were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred.
28 Of the children of Yisshakar, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 29 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Yisshakar, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred.
30 Of the children of Zevulun, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 31 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Zevulun, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.
32 Of the children of Yoceph, namely, of the children of Ephrayim, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 33 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Ephrayim, were forty thousand and five hundred.
34 Of the children of Menashsheh, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 35 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Menashsheh, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.
36 Of the children of Binyamiyn, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 37 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Binyamiyn, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.
38 Of the children of Dan, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 39 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Dan, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred.
40 Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 41 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Asher, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.
42 Of the children of Naphtaliy, throughout their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 43 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Naphtaliy, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.
44 These are those that were numbered, which Mosheh and Aharon numbered, and the princes of Yashar’el, being twelve men: each one was for the house of his fathers. 45 So were all those that were numbered of the children of Yashar’el, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Yashar’el; 46 Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.
47 But the Leviyiym after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them. 48 For Yahuah had spoken unto Mosheh, saying: 49 Only you shall not number the tribe of Leviy, neither take the sum of them among the children of Yashar’el: 50 But you shall appoint the Leviyiym over the Tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the Tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the Tabernacle. 51 And when the Tabernacle sets forward, the Leviyiym shall take it down: and when the Tabernacle is to be pitched, the Leviyiym shall set it up: and the stranger that comes nigh shall be put to death. 52 And the children of Yashar’el shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts. 53 But the Leviyiym shall pitch round about the Tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the assembly of the children of Yashar’el: and the Leviyiym shall guard the watch of the Tabernacle of testimony. 54 And the children of Yashar’el did according to all that Yahuah commanded Mosheh, so did they.
Chapter 2
1 And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh and unto El-Aharon, saying: 2 Every man of the children of Yashar’el shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign of their father's house: far off about the Tabernacle of the assembly shall they pitch. 3 And on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall they of the standard of the camp of Yahudah pitch throughout their armies: and Nachshon the son of Ammiynadav shall be captain of the children of Yahudah. 4 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred. 5 And those that do pitch next unto him shall be the tribe of Yisshakar: and Nethan’el the son of Tsu`ar shall be captain of the children of Yisshakar. 6 And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were fifty and four thousand and four hundred. 7 Then the tribe of Zevulun: and Eliy’av the son of Chelon shall be captain of the children of Zevulun. 8 And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred. 9 All that were numbered in the camp of Yahudah were a hundred thousand and fourscore thousand and six thousand and four hundred, throughout their armies. These shall first set forth.
10 On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Re’uven according to their armies: and the captain of the children of Re’uven shall be Eliytsur the son of Shedey’ur. 11 And his host, and those that were numbered thereof, were forty and six thousand and five hundred. 12 And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Shim`on: and the captain of the children of Shim`on shall be Shelumiy’el the son of Tsuriyshaddai. 13 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and nine thousand and three hundred. 14 Then the tribe of Gad: and the captain of the sons of Gad shall be Elyacaph the son of Re’u’el. 15 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and five thousand and six hundred and fifty. 16 All that were numbered in the camp of Re’uven were a hundred thousand and fifty and one thousand and four hundred and fifty, throughout their armies. And they shall set forth in the second rank.
17 Then the Tabernacle of the assembly shall set forward with the camp of the Leviyiym in the midst of the camp: as they encamp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place by their standards.
18 On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephrayim according to their armies: and the captain of the sons of Ephrayim shall be Eliyshama the son of Ammiyhud. 19 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty thousand and five hundred. 20 And by him shall be the tribe of Menashsheh: and the captain of the children of Menashsheh shall be Gamliy’el the son of Pedahtsur. 21 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred. 22 Then the tribe of Binyamiyn: and the captain of the sons of Binyamiyn shall be Aviydan the son of Gid`oniy. 23 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred. 24 All that were numbered of the camp of Ephrayim were a hundred thousand and eight thousand and a hundred, throughout their armies. And they shall go forward in the third rank.
25 The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the north side by their armies: and the captain of the children of Dan shall be Achiy`ezer the son of Ammiyshaddai. 26 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred. 27 And those that encamp by him shall be the tribe of Asher: and the captain of the children of Asher shall be Pag`iy’el the son of Okran. 28 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.
29 Then the tribe of Naphtaliy: and the captain of the children of Naphtaliy shall be Achiyra the son of Eynan. 30 And his host, and those that were numbered of them, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred. 31 All they that were numbered in the camp of Dan were a hundred thousand and fifty and seven thousand and six hundred. They shall go hindmost with their standards.
32 These are those which were numbered of the children of Yashar’el by the house of their fathers: all those that were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty. 33 But the Leviyiym were not numbered among the children of Yashar’el; as Yahuah commanded Mosheh. 34 And the children of Yashar’el did according to all that Yahuah commanded Mosheh: so they pitched by their standards, and so they set forward, everyone after their families, according to the house of their fathers.
Chapter 3
1 These also are the generations of Aharon and Mosheh in the day that Yahuah spoke with Mosheh in Mount Ciynai. 2 And these are the names of the sons of Aharon; Nadav the firstborn, and Aviyhu, El`azar, and Iythamar. 3 These are the names of the sons of Aharon, the priests who were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office. 4 And Nadav and Aviyhu died before Yahuah, when they offered strange fire before Yahuah, in the wilderness of Ciynai, and they had no children: and El`azar and Iythamar ministered in the priest's office in the sight of Aharon their father.
5 And Yahuah spoke unto Mosheh, saying: 6 Bring the tribe of Leviy near, and present them before Aharon the priest, that they may minister unto him. 7 And they shall guard his watch, and the watch of the whole assembly before the Tabernacle of the assembly, to do the service of the Tabernacle. 8 And they shall guard all the instruments of the Tabernacle of the assembly, and the charge of the children of Yashar’el, to do the service of the Tabernacle. 9 And you shall give the Leviyiym unto Aharon and to his sons: they are wholly given unto him out of the children of Yashar’el. 10 And you shall appoint Aharon and his sons, and they shall guard their priest's office: and the stranger that comes nigh shall be put to death. 11 And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh, saying: 12 And I, behold, I have taken the Leviyiym from among the children of Yashar’el instead of all the firstborn that opens the womb among the children of Yashar’el: therefore the Leviyiym shall be mine; 13 Because all the firstborn are mine; for on the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Mitsrayim I hallowed unto me all the firstborn in Yashar’el, both man and beast: mine shall they be: I am Yahuah.
14 And Yahuah spoke unto Mosheh in the wilderness of Ciynai, saying: 15 Number the children of Leviy after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward you shall number them. 16 And Mosheh numbered them according to the Word of Yahuah, as he was commanded. 17 And these were the sons of Leviy by their names; Gershon, and Qohath, and Merariy. 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families; Livniy, and Shim`iy. 19 And the sons of Qohath by their families; Amram, and Yitshar, Chevron, and Uzziy’el. 20 And the sons of Merariy by their families; Machliy, and Mushiy. These are the families of the Leviyiym according to the house of their fathers. 21 Of Gershon was the family of the Livniyiym, and the family of the Shim`iyiym: these are the families of the Gereshunniym. 22 Those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, even those that were numbered of them were seven thousand and five hundred. 23 The families of the Gereshunniym shall pitch behind the Tabernacle westward. 24 And the chief of the house of the father of the Gereshunniym shall be Elyacaph the son of La’el. 25 And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the Tabernacle of the assembly shall be the Tabernacle, and the tent, the covering thereof, and the hanging for the door of the Tabernacle of the assembly, 26 And the hangings of the court, and the curtain for the door of the court, which is by the Tabernacle, and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof.
27 And of Qohath was the family of the Amramiym, and the family of the Yitshariym, and the family of the Chevroniym, and the family of the Uzziy’eliym: these are the families of the Qohathiym. 28 In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thousand and six hundred, guarding the watch of the sanctuary. 29 The families of the sons of Qohath shall pitch on the side of the Tabernacle southward. 30 And the chief of the house of the father of the families of the Qohathiym shall be Eliytsaphan the son of Uzziy’el. 31 And their charge shall be the Ark, and the table, and the menorah, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary wherewith they minister, and the hanging, and all the service thereof. 32 And El`azar the son of Aharon the priest shall be chief over the chief of the Leviyiym and have the oversight of them that guard the watch of the sanctuary.
33 Of Merariy was the family of the Machliym, and the family of the Mushiym: these are the families of Merariy. 34 And those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were six thousand and two hundred. 35 And the chief of the house of the father of the families of Merariy was Tsuriy’el the son of Aviychayil: these shall pitch on the side of the Tabernacle northward. 36 And under the custody and charge of the sons of Merariy shall be the boards of the Tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and the sockets thereof, and all the vessels thereof, and all that serves thereto, 37 And the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords.
38 But those that encamp before the Tabernacle toward the east, even before the Tabernacle of the assembly eastward, shall be Mosheh, and Aharon and his sons, guarding the watch of the sanctuary for the watch of the children of Yashar’el; and the stranger that comes nigh shall be put to death. 39 All that were numbered of the Leviyiym, which Mosheh and Aharon numbered at the commandment of Yahuah, throughout their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty and two thousand.
40 And Yahuah said unto El-Mosheh, Number all the firstborn of the males of the children of Yashar’el from a month old and upward and take את the number of their names. 41 And you shall take the Leviyiym for me (I am Yahuah) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Yashar’el; and the cattle of the Leviyiym instead of all the firstlings among the cattle of the children of Yashar’el. 42 And Mosheh numbered, as Yahuah commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Yashar’el. 43 And all the firstborn males by the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen.
44 And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh, saying: 45 Take the Leviyiym instead of all the firstborn among the children of Yashar’el, and the cattle of the Leviyiym instead of their cattle; and the Leviyiym shall be mine: I am Yahuah. 46 And את for those that are to be redeemed of the two hundred and threescore and thirteen of the firstborn of the children of Yashar’el, which are more than the Leviyiym; 47 You shall even take five sheqels apiece by the poll, after the sheqel of the sanctuary shall you take them: (the sheqel is twenty gerahs:) 48 And you shall give the money, wherewith the odd number of them is to be redeemed, unto Aharon and to his sons. 49 And Mosheh took את the redemption money of them that were over and above them that were redeemed by the Leviyiym: 50 Of the first born of the children of Yashar’el took he the money; a thousand three hundred and threescore and five sheqels, after the sheqel of the sanctuary: 51 And Mosheh gave the money of them that were redeemed unto Aharon and to his sons, according to the Word of Yahuah, as Yahuah commanded Mosheh.
Chapter 4
1 And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh and unto El-Aharon, saying: 2 Lift the head of the sons of Qohath from among the sons of Leviy, after their families, by the house of their fathers, 3 From thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the Tabernacle of the assembly. 4 This shall be the service of the sons of Qohath in the Tabernacle of the assembly, about the most holy things: 5 And when the camp sets forward, Aharon shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down את the covering veil, and cover את the Ark of Testimony with it: 6 And shall put thereon the covering of antelope skins and shall spread over it a cloth wholly of blue and shall put in the staves thereof. 7 And upon the table of showbread they shall spread a cloth of blue, and put thereon the dishes, and the spoons, and the bowls, and את covers to cover withal: and the continual bread shall be thereon: 8 And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet and cover the same with a covering of antelope skins and shall put in the staves thereof. 9 And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the menorah of the light, and his lamps, and his tongs, and his snuff dishes, and את all the oil vessels thereof, wherewith they minister unto it: 10 And they shall put it and all the vessels thereof within a covering of antelope skins and shall put it upon a bar. 11 And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue, and cover it with a covering of antelope skins, and shall put to the staves thereof: 12 And they shall take all the instruments of ministry, wherewith they minister in the sanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of antelope skins, and shall put them on a bar: 13 And they shall take away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth thereon: 14 And they shall put upon it all the vessels thereof, wherewith they minister about it, even the censers, the fleshhooks, and the shovels, and the basins, all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of antelope skins, and put to the staves of it. 15 And when Aharon and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of Qohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Qohath in the Tabernacle of the assembly.
16 And to the office of El`azar the son of Aharon the priest pertains the oil for the light, and the sweet incense, and the daily oblation, and the anointing oil, and the oversight of all the Tabernacle, and of all that therein is, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof.
17 And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh and unto El-Aharon, saying: 18 Cut ye not off the tribe of the families of the Qohathiym from among the Leviyiym: 19 But thus do unto them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach unto the most holy things: Aharon and his sons shall go in, and appoint them everyone to his service and to his burden: 20 But they shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die.
Haftorah: Husha (Hosea) 2:1-22
1 Say ye unto your brethren: Ammiy; and to your sisters, Ruchamah. 2 Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my woman, neither am I her man: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts; 3 Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst. 4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms. 5 For their mother has played the harlot: she that conceived them has done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.
6 Therefore, behold, I will hedge up your way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths. 7 And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first man; for then was it better with me than now. 8 For she did not know that I gave her grain, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Ba`al. 9 Therefore will I return, and take away my grain in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness. 10 And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of my hand. 11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her New Moons, and her Shabbaths, and all her solemn feasts. 12 And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she has said: These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them. 13 And I will visit upon her the days of Ba`aliym, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgot me, says Yahuah.
14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. 15 And I will give her, her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Akor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Mitsrayim. 16 And it shall be at that day, says Yahuah, that you shall call me Iyshiy; and shall call me no more Ba`aliy. 17 For I will take away the names of Ba`aliym out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name. 18 And in that day will I cut a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth and will make them to lie down safely. 19 And I will betroth you unto me forever; yea, I will betroth you unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. 20 I will even betroth you unto me in faithfulness: and you shall know Yahuah. 21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, says Yahuah, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth; 22 And the earth shall hear the grain, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Yizre’el.
Besorah: Luqas (Luke) 16:1 - 17:10
And he said also unto his Talmidiym: There was a certain rich man, who had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. 2 And he called him, and said unto him: How is it that I hear this of you? Give an account of your stewardship; for you may be no longer steward. 3 Then the steward said within himself: What shall I do? For my adoniy takes away from me את the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed. 4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. 5 So he called every one of his adoniy's debtors unto him, and said unto the first: How much do you owe unto my adoniy? 6 And he said: A hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him: Take your bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty. 7 Then said he to another: And how much do you owe? And he said: A hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him: Take your bill and write fourscore. 8 And the adoniy commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their nation wiser than the children of light. 9 And I say unto you: Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. 10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. 11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, את who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, את who shall give you that which is your own?
13 No servant can serve two adoniym: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve Elohiym and mammon. 14 And the Parashiym also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. 15 And he said unto them: Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but Elohiym knows your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of Elohiym. 16 The Torah and the prophets were until Yahuchanon: since that time the Kingdom of Elohiym is preached, and every man presses into it. 17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the Torah to fail. 18 Whosoever puts away his woman, and marries another, breaks wedlock: and whosoever marries her that is put away from her man breaks wedlock.
19 There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named El`azar, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Avraham’s bosom: the rich man also died and was buried; 23 And in She’ol he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Avraham afar off, and El`azar in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Avraham, have mercy on me, and send El`azar, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Avraham said: Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise El`azar evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Avraham said unto him: They have Mosheh and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said: Nay, father Avraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him: If they hear not Mosheh and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Chapter 17
1 Then said he unto the Talmidiym: It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! 2 It were better for him that a millstone was hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
3 Take heed to yourselves: If your brother trespass against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. 4 And if he trespasses against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to you, saying: I repent; you shall forgive him. 5 And the apostles said unto Adonai, Increase our faith. 6 And Adonai said: If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree: Be plucked up by the root and be planted in the sea; and it should obey you. 7 But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field: Go and sit down to meat? 8 And will not rather say unto him: Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird yourself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward you shall eat and drink? 9 Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. 10 So likewise ye, when ye shall have done את all those things which are commanded you, say: We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
