Torah Portion: Rosh Hashanah
Parshat: Genesis 21
And Yahuah visited Sarah as he had said, and Yahuah did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived, and bore Avraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which Elohiym had spoken to him. 3 And Avraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bore to him, Yitschaq. 4 And Avraham circumcised his son Yitschaq being eight days old, as Elohiym had commanded him. 5 And Avraham was a hundred years old, when his son Yitschaq was born את unto him.
6 And Sarah said, Elohiym has made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. 7 And she said: Who would have said unto Avraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? For I have born him a son in his old age. 8 And the child grew and was weaned: and Avraham made a great feast the same day that Yitschaq was weaned.
9 And Sarah saw the son of Ha'ger the Mitsriym, which she had born unto Avraham, mocking. 10 Wherefore she said unto Avraham: Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Yitschaq. 11 And the thing was very grievous in Avraham's sight because of his son.
12 And Elohiym said unto El-Avraham: Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the lad, and because of your bondwoman; in all that Sarah has said unto you, hearken unto her voice; for in Yitschaq shall your seed be called. 13 And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is your seed. 14 And Avraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Ha'ger, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Be'er Sheva. 15 And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. 16 And she went and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said: Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept. 17 And Elohiym heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of Elohiym called to Ha'ger out of the heavens, and said unto her: What ails you, Ha'ger? Fear not; for Elohiym has heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in your hand; for I will make him a great nation. 19 And Elohiym opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink. 20 And Elohiym was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. 21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Pa'ran: and his mother took him a woman out of the land of Mitsrayim.
22 And it came to pass at that time, that Aviymelek and Piykol the chief captain of his host spoke unto El-Avraham, saying: Elohiym is with you in all that you do: 23 Now therefore swear seven oaths unto me here by Elohiym that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son's son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto you, you shall do unto me, and to the land wherein you have sojourned. 24 And Avraham said, I will swear seven oaths. 25 And Avraham reproved Aviymelek because of a well of water, which Aviymelek's servants had violently taken away. 26 And Aviymelek said, I know not who has done this thing: neither did you tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but today. 27 And Avraham took sheep and oxen and gave them unto Aviymelek; and both of them cut a covenant. 28 And Avraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. 29 And Aviymelek said unto El-Avraham: What means these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves? 30 And he said: For these seven ewe lambs shall you take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have dug this well. 31 Wherefore he called that place Be'er Sheva; because there they swore seven oaths, both of them. 32 Thus they cut a covenant at Be'er Sheva: then Aviymelek rose up, and Piykol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Pelishtiym.
33 And Avraham planted a grove in Be'er Sheva, and called there on the name of Yahuah, El Olam. 34 And Avraham sojourned in the Pelishtiym's land many days.
Numbers 29:1-6
And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have a holy assembly; ye shall do no servile work: it is Yom Teru'ah unto you. 2 And ye shall offer an ascending smoke offering for a sweet savor unto Yahuah; one young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year without blemish: 3 And their oblation shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram, 4 And one tenth deal for one lamb, throughout the seven lambs: 5 And one kid of the goats for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you: 6 Beside the ascending smoke offering of the month, and his oblation, and the daily ascending smoke offering, and his oblation, and their drink offerings, according unto their manner, for a sweet savor, a sacrifice made by fire unto Yahuah.
Haftorah: Jeremiah 31:1-19
At the same time, says Yahuah, will I be the Elohiym of all the families of Yashar'el, and they shall be my people. 2 Thus says Yahuah: The people who were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Yashar'el, when I went to cause him to rest. 3 Yahuah has appeared of old unto me, saying: Yea, I have loved you with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn you. 4 Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Yashar'el: you shall again be adorned with your tabrets and shall go forth in the dances of them that make merry. 5 You shall yet plant vines upon the mountains of Shomeron: the planters shall plant and shall eat them as common things. 6 For there shall be a day, that the Natsariym upon Mount Ephrayim shall cry: Arise ye and let us go up to Tsiyon unto El-Yahuah Elohaynu. 7 For thus says Yahuah; Sing with gladness for Ya'aqov, and shout among the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Yahuah, save your people, את the remnant of Yashar'el. 8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travails with child together: a great company shall return thither. 9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a Father to Yashar'el, and Ephrayim is my firstborn.
10 Hear the Word of Yahuah, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say: He that scattered Yashar'el will gather him, and guard him, as a shepherd his flock. 11 For Yahuah has redeemed Ya'aqov and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he. 12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Tsiyon, and shall flow together to the goodness of Yahuah, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow anymore at all. 13 Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. 14 And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, says Yahuah.
15 Thus says Yahuah; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rachel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not. 16 Thus says Yahuah; Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears: for your work shall be rewarded, says Yahuah; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy. 17 And there is hope in your end, says Yahuah, that your children shall come again to their own border.
18 I have surely heard Ephrayim bemoaning himself thus: You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed to the yoke: turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are Yahuah Elohai. 19 Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.
Besorah: Matthew 24:29-36
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of A'dam in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of A'dam coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a shofar, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Amein I say unto you: This nation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Luke 1:39-55
And Miryam arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Yahudah; 40 And entered into the house of Zakaryahu, and saluted Eliysheva. 41 And it came to pass, that, when Eliysheva heard the salutation of Miryam, the babe leaped in her womb; and Eliysheva was filled with the Ruach Ha'Qodesh: 42 And she spoke out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed are you את among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. 43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Adonai should come to me? 44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of your salutation sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from Yahuah. 46 And Miryam said: My soul magnifies Yahuah, 47 And my ruach has rejoiced in Elohiym my Savior. 48 For he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 For he that is mighty has done to me great things; and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has showed strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He has put down the mighty from their seats and exalted them of low degree. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he has sent empty away. 54 He has helped his servant Yashar'el, in remembrance of his mercy; 55 As he spoke to our fathers, to Avraham, and to his seed forever.
