As we begin this study, many who are resident in the American church may have great difficulty with the notion that they are called to the keeping of the commandments. Many believers have been instructed in a form of grace which acts as a license to sin and the working of iniquity, which is lawlessness. Let’s see if scripture supports this notion.
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 7:21
Not everyone that says unto me, ADONAI, ADONAI, shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ADONAI, ADONAI, have we not prophesied in your name? And in your name have cast out devils? And in your name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye transgressors of the Torah [in the Hebrew, pa’ali aven].
Lucas (Luke) 13:24-28
Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and has shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, ADONAI, ADONAI, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in your presence, and you have taught in our streets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye transgressors of the Torah [in Hebrew, pa’ali aven]. 28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see את (eth)-Avraham, and Yitschaq, and Ya`aqov, and all את (eth) the prophets, in the Kingdom of ELOHIYM, and you yourselves thrust out.
Let’s look first at the discussion of those who are workers of iniquity. In the Hebrew (Ivriyt), we find two words: First is the word (פָעַל) pa`al (Strong's 6466), which is generally interpreted as to do or make (systematically and habitually), especially to practice, to commit, to be an evildoer, a maker, or a worker. Second is the word (אָוֶן) aven (Strong's 205), which is generally interpreted as meaning affliction, evil, false, idol, iniquity, mischief, naught, sorrow, unjust, unrighteous, vain, vanity, or wickedness.
Pa’ali aven therefore means workers of affliction, of evil, of falsity, of idolatry, of iniquity, of mischief, of naught, of sorrow, of injustice, of unrighteousness, of vanity, or of wickedness. Are there other supporting scriptures for these two statements from the Besor’oth (gospels)? Well, there are more than two.
Iyov (Job) 31:3
Is not destruction to the wicked? And a strange (neker – unexpected) punishment to the workers of iniquity?
Iyov (Job) 34:7-10
What man is like Iyov, who drinks up scorning like water? 8 Which goes in company with the workers of iniquity (pa’ali aven), and walks with wicked men. 9 For he has said, It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with ELOHIYM. 10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from EL, that he should do wickedness; and from EL SHADDAI, that he should commit iniquity.
Iyov (Job) 34:22
There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity (pa’ali aven) may hide themselves.
Tehilliym (Psalm) 5:5
The foolish shall not stand in your sight: you hate all workers of iniquity.
Tehilliym (Psalm) 6:8
Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for YAHUAH has heard the voice of my weeping.
Tehilliym (Psalm) 14:4
Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? Who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon YAHUAH.
Tehilliym (Psalm) 28:3
Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.
Tehilliym (Psalm) 36:1-4, 12
The transgression of the wicked says within my heart, that there is no fear of ELOHIYM before his eyes. 2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful. 3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he has left off to be wise, and to do good. 4 He devises mischief upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he abhors not evil.
12 There are the workers of iniquity (pa’ali aven) fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
Tehilliym (Psalm) 92:7
When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed forever:
Mishlei (Proverbs) 10:29
The way of YAHUAH is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
Mishlei (Proverbs) 21:15
It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
I believe that we can conclude that destruction is what lies ahead for the pa’ali aven – the workers of iniquity, the transgressors of the Torah.
