Weekly Torah Portion

It is considered a great joy to study the Torah via the portions that were set out by Ezra to read through the Cepheriym Mosheh (Five Books of Moses), also referred to as the Pentateuch. In addition to the traditional Torah portions, we have also included weekly readings from the Haftorah (Prophets) and the Besorah (Gospels). These portions are also collectively available in our publication titled Parshat; a hardcover perpetual book for annual study. Parshat: Vayiqra (Leviticus) 9:1 - 11:47

And it came to pass on the eighth day, that Mosheh called Aharon and his sons, and the elders of Yashar'el; 2 And he said unto El-Aharon: Take a young calf for a sin offering, and a ram for an ascending smoke offering, without blemish, and offer them before Yahuah. 3 And unto the children of Yashar'el you shall speak, saying: Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, for an ascending smoke offering; 4 Also a bullock and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before Yahuah; and an oblation mingled with oil: for today Yahuah will appear unto you.

5 And they brought את which Mosheh commanded before the Tabernacle of the assembly: and all the assembly drew near and stood before Yahuah. 6 And Mosheh said: This is the thing which Yahuah commanded that ye should do: and the glory of Yahuah shall appear unto you. 7 And Mosheh said unto El-Aharon: Go unto the altar, and offer your sin offering, and your ascending smoke offering, and make an atonement for yourself, and for the people: and offer the offering of the people, and make an atonement for them, as Yahuah commanded.

8 Aharon therefore went unto the altar, and slew the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself. 9 And the sons of Aharon brought the blood unto him: and he dipped his finger in the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar, and poured out the blood at the bottom of the altar: 10 But the fat, and the kidneys, and the caul above the liver of the sin offering, he burnt upon the altar; as Yahuah commanded Mosheh. 11 And the flesh and the hide he burnt with fire without the camp. 12 And he slew the ascending smoke offering; and Aharon's sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled round about upon the altar. 13 And they presented the ascending smoke offering unto him, with the pieces thereof, and the head: and he burnt them upon the altar. 14 And he did wash the inwards and the legs and burnt them upon the ascending smoke offering on the altar.

15 And he brought את the people's offering, and took the goat, which was the sin offering for the people, and slew it, and offered it for sin, as the first. 16 And he brought the ascending smoke offering and offered it according to the manner. 17 And he brought the oblation, and took a handful thereof, and burnt it upon the altar, beside the ascending smoke sacrifice of the morning. 18 He slew also the bullock and the ram for a sacrifice of peace offerings, which was for the people: and Aharon's sons presented unto him the blood, which he sprinkled upon the altar round about, 19 And the fat of the bullock and of the ram, the rump, and that which covers the inwards, and the kidneys, and the caul above the liver: 20 And they put the fat upon the breasts, and he burnt the fat upon the altar: 21 And את the breasts and את the right shoulder Aharon waved for a wave offering before Yahuah; as Mosheh commanded. 22 And Aharon lifted up his hand toward the people, and blessed them, and came down from offering of the sin offering, and the ascending smoke offering, and peace offerings. 23 And Mosheh and Aharon went into the Tabernacle of the assembly, and came out, and blessed the people: and the glory of Yahuah appeared unto all the people. 24 And there came a fire out from before Yahuah and consumed upon the altar the ascending smoke offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their face.

Chapter 10

And Nadav and Aviyhu, the sons of Aharon, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before Yahuah, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from Yahuah, and devoured them, and they died before Yahuah. 3 Then Mosheh said unto El-Aharon: This is it that Yahuah spoke, saying: I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aharon held his peace. 4 And Mosheh called Miysha'el and Eliytsaphan, the sons of Uzziy'el the uncle of Aharon, and said unto them: Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. 5 So they went near and carried them in their coats out of the camp, as Mosheh had said. 6 And Mosheh said unto El-Aharon, and unto El'azar and unto Iythamar, his sons: Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Yashar'el, bewail the burning which Yahuah has kindled. 7 And ye shall not go out from the door of the Tabernacle of the assembly, lest ye die: for the anointing oil of Yahuah is upon you. And they did according to the word of Mosheh.

8 And Yahuah spoke unto El-Aharon, saying: 9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when ye go into the Tabernacle of the assembly, lest ye die: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations: 10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean; 11 And that ye may teach the children of Yashar'el את all the statutes which Yahuah has spoken unto them by the hand of Mosheh.

12 And Mosheh spoke unto El-Aharon, and unto El'azar and unto Iythamar, his sons that were left: Take the oblation that remains of the offerings of Yahuah made by fire, and eat it without leaven beside the altar: for it is most holy: 13 And ye shall eat it in the holy place, because it is your due, and your sons' due, of the sacrifices of Yahuah made by fire: for so I am commanded. 14 And the wave breast and the heave shoulder shall ye eat in a clean place; you, and your sons, and your daughters with you: for they be your due, and your sons' due, which are given out of the sacrifices of peace offerings of the children of Yashar'el. 15 The heave shoulder and the wave breast shall they bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to wave it for a wave offering before Yahuah; and it shall be yours, and your sons' with you, by a statute forever; as Yahuah has commanded.

16 And Mosheh diligently sought the goat of the sin offering, and, behold, it was burnt: and he was angry with El'azar and Iythamar, the sons of Aharon which were left alive, saying: 17 Wherefore have ye not eaten the sin offering in the holy place, seeing it is most holy, and Elohiym has given it you to bear the iniquity of the assembly, to make atonement for them before Yahuah? 18 Behold, the blood of it was not brought in within the holy place: ye should indeed have eaten it in the holy place, as I commanded. 19 And Aharon said unto Mosheh: Behold, this day have they offered their sin offering and their ascending smoke offering before Yahuah; and such things have befallen me: and if I had eaten the sin offering today, should it have been accepted in the sight of Yahuah? 20 And when Mosheh heard that, he was content.

Chapter 11

And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh and to El-Aharon, saying unto them, 2 Speak unto the children of Yashar'el, saying: These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth. 3 Whatsoever parts the hoof, and is cloven-footed, and chews the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat. 4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he chews the cud, but divides not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. 5 And the coney, because he chews the cud, but divides not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. 6 And the hare, because he chews the cud, but divides not the hoof; he is unclean unto you. 7 And the swine, though he divides the hoof, and be cloven-footed, yet he chews not the cud; he is unclean to you. 8 Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you.

9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. 10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: 11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcasses in abomination. 12 Whatsoever has no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

13 And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the osprey, 14 And the vulture, and the kite after his kind; 15 את Every raven after his kind; 16 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind, 17 And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl, 18 And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle, 19 And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat. 20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you. 21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goes upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; 22 Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. 23 But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you. 24 And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever touches the carcass of them shall be unclean until the even. 25 And whosoever bears ought of the carcass of them shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the even. 26 The carcasses of every beast which divides the hoof, and is not cloven-footed, nor chews the cud, are unclean unto you: everyone that touches them shall be unclean. 27 And whatsoever goes upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso touches their carcass shall be unclean until the even. 28 And he that bears the carcass of them shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the even: they are unclean unto you.

29 These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his kind, 30 And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and the mole. 31 These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever touches them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the even. 32 And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, does fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall be cleansed. 33 And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falls, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it. 34 Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which such water comes shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean. 35 And everything whereupon any part of their carcass falls shall be unclean; whether it be oven, or ranges for pots, they shall be broken down: for they are unclean and shall be unclean unto you. 36 Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is plenty of water, shall be clean: but that which touches their carcass shall be unclean. 37 And if any part of their carcass falls upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean. 38 But if any water be put upon the seed, and any part of their carcass fall thereon, it shall be unclean unto you. 39 And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that touches the carcass thereof shall be unclean until the even. 40 And he that eats of the carcass of it shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening: he also that bears the carcass of it shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the even. 41 And every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten. 42 Whatsoever goes upon the belly, and whatsoever goes upon all four, or whatsoever has more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination. 43 Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creeps, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby. 44 For I am Yahuah Elohaykem: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. 45 For I am Yahuah that brings you up out of the land of Mitsrayim, to be your Elohiym: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. 46 This is the Torah of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moves in the waters, and of every creature that creeps upon the earth: 47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.

Haftarah: Shemu'el Sheniy (2 Samuel) 6:1 - 7:17

Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Yashar'el, thirty thousand. 2 And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Ba'aley Yahudah, to bring up from thence את the Ark of Elohiym, whose name is called by the name of Yahuah Tseva'oth that dwells between the Keruviym. 3 And they set the Ark of Elohiym upon a new cart and brought it out of the house of Aviynadav that was in Giv'ah: and Uzza and Achyo, the sons of Aviynadav, drove the new cart. 4 And they brought it out of the house of Aviynadav which was at Giv'ah, accompanying the Ark of Elohiym: and Achyo went before the Ark. 5 And David and all the house of Yashar'el played before Yahuah on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on shofars, and on cymbals.

6 And when they came to Nakon's threshing floor, Uzza put forth his hand to the Ark of Elohiym and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 7 And the anger of Yahuah was kindled against Uzza; and Elohiym smote him there for his error; and there he died by the Ark of Elohiym. 8 And David was displeased, because Yahuah had made a breach upon Uzza: and he called the name of the place Perets Uzza to this day. 9 And David was afraid of Yahuah that day, and said: How shall the Ark of Yahuah come to me? 10 So David would not remove the Ark of Yahuah unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Oved Edom the Gittiy. 11 And the Ark of Yahuah continued in the house of Oved Edom the Gittiy three months: and Yahuah blessed Oved Edom, and all his household.

12 And it was told King David, saying: Yahuah has blessed the house of Oved Edom, and all that pertains unto him, because of the Ark of Elohiym. So David went and brought up the Ark of Elohiym from the house of Oved Edom into the city of David with gladness. 13 And it was so, that when they that bore the Ark of Yahuah had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings. 14 And David danced before Yahuah with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Yashar'el brought up Ark of Yahuah with shouting, and with the sound of the shofar. 16 And as the Ark of Yahuah came into the city of David, Miykal Sha'ul's daughter looked through a window, and saw King David leaping and dancing before Yahuah; and she despised him in her heart.

17 And they brought in the Ark of Yahuah, and set it in his place, in the midst of the Tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered ascending smoke offerings and peace offerings before Yahuah. 18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering ascending smoke offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahuah Tseva'oth. 19 And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Yashar'el, as well to the women as men, to everyone a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed everyone to his house.

20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Miykal the daughter of Sha'ul came out to meet David and said: How glorious was the king of Yashar'el today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself! 21 And David said unto Miykal: It was before Yahuah, which chose me before your father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of Yahuah, over Yashar'el: therefore will I play before Yahuah. 22 And I will yet be more vile than thus and will be base in my own sight: and of the maidservants which you have spoken of, of them shall I be had in honor. 23 Therefore Miykal the daughter of Sha'ul had no child unto the day of her death.

Chapter 7

And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and Yahuah had given him rest round about from all his enemies; 2 That the king said unto Nathan the prophet: See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the Ark of Elohiym dwells within curtains. 3 And Nathan said to the king: Go, do all that is in your heart; for Yahuah is with you.

4 And it came to pass that night, that the Word of Yahuah came unto Nathan, saying: 5 Go and tell my servant El-David: Thus says Yahuah: Shall you build me a house for me to dwell in? 6 Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Yashar'el out of Mitsrayim, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a Tabernacle. 7 In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Yashar'el I spoke a word with any of the tribes of Yashar'el, whom I commanded to feed my people Yashar'el, saying: Why build ye not me a house of cedar? 8 Now therefore so shall you say unto my servant David: Thus says Yahuah Tseva'oth, I took you from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Yashar'el: 9 And I was with you whithersoever you went, and have cut off all your enemies out of your sight, and have made you a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth. 10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Yashar'el, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them anymore, as beforetime, 11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Yashar'el and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also Yahuah tells you that he will make you a house.

12 And when your days be fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, which shall proceed out of your generation, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: 15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Sha'ul, whom I put away before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you: your throne shall be established forever. 17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto El-David.

Besorah: Marqus (Mark) 9:1-13

And he said unto them: Amein I say unto you: That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the Kingdom of Elohiym come with power.

2 And after six days Yahusha takes with him Kepha, and Ya'aqov, and Yochanon, and leads them up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. 3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4 And there appeared unto them Eliyahu with Mosheh: and they were talking with Yahusha. 5 And Kepha answered and said to Yahusha, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three cukkoth; one for you, and one for Mosheh, and one for Eliyahu. 6 For he knew not what to say; for they were sore afraid. 7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying: This is my yachiyd: hear him. 8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man anymore, save Yahusha only with themselves. 9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of A'dam were risen from the dead. 10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.

11 And they asked him, saying: Why say the scribes that Eliyahu must first come? 12 And he answered and told them, Eliyahu indeed comes first, and restores all things; and how it is written of the Son of A'dam, that he must suffer many things, and be set at naught. 13 But I say unto you: That Eliyahu is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they willed, as it is written of him.
