Weekly Torah Portion

It is considered a great joy to study the Torah via the portions that were set out by Ezra to read through the Cepheriym Mosheh (Five Books of Moses), also referred to as the Pentateuch. In addition to the traditional Torah portions, we have also included weekly readings from the Haftorah (Prophets) and the Besorah (Gospels). These portions are also collectively available in our publication titled Parshat; a hardcover perpetual book for annual study. Parshat: Bemidbar (Numbers) 13:1 - 15:41

And Yahuah spoke unto Mosheh, saying: 2 Send you men, that they may search the land of Kena`an, which I give unto the children of Yashar’el: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, everyone a ruler among them. 3 And Mosheh by the commandment of Yahuah sent them from the wilderness of Pa’ran: all those men were heads of the children of Yashar’el. 4 And these were their names: of the tribe of Re’uven, Shammua the son of Zakkur. 5 Of the tribe of Shim`on, Shaphat the son of Choriy. 6 Of the tribe of Yahudah, Kalev the son of Yephunneh. 7 Of the tribe of Yisshakar, Yig’al the son of Yoceph. 8 Of the tribe of Ephrayim, Husha the son of Nun. 9 Of the tribe of Binyamiyn, Paltiy the son of Raphu. 10 Of the tribe of Zevulun, Gaddiy’el the son of Codiy. 11 Of the tribe of Yoceph, namely, of the tribe of Menashsheh, Gaddiy the son of Cuciy. 12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiy’el the son of Gemalliy. 13 Of the tribe of Asher, Cethur the son of Miyka’el. 14 Of the tribe of Naphtaliy, Nachbiy the son of Vophciy. 15 Of the tribe of Gad, Ge’u’el the son of Makiy. 16 These are the names of the men which Mosheh sent to spy out the land. And Mosheh called Husha the son of Nun Yahusha.

17 And Mosheh sent them to spy out the land of Kena`an, and said unto them: Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain: 18 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many; 19 And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strongholds; 20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first ripe grapes.

21 So they went up and searched the land from the wilderness of Tsin unto Rechov, as men come to Chamath. 22 And they ascended by the Negev, and came unto Chevron; where Achiyman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anaq, were. (Now Chevron was built seven years before Tso`an in Mitsrayim.) 23 And they came unto the brook of Eshkol and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs. 24 The place was called Nachal Eshkol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Yashar’el cut down from thence. 25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

26 And they went and came to El-Mosheh, and to El-Aharon, and to all the assembly of the children of Yashar’el, unto the wilderness of Pa’ran, to Qadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the assembly, and showed them the fruit of the land. 27 And they told him and said: We came unto the land whither you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. 28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anaq there. 29 The Amaleqiym dwell in the land of the Negev: and the Chittiym, and the Yevuciym, and the Emoriym, dwell in the mountains: and the Kena`aniym dwell by the sea, and by the coast of the Yardan. 30 And Kalev stilled the people before Mosheh, and said: Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. 31 But the men that went up with him said: We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. 32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Yashar’el, saying: The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. 33 And there we saw the Nephiliym, the sons of Anaq, which come of the Naphaliym: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Chapter 14

And all the assembly lifted up their voice and cried; and the people wept that night. 2 And all the children of Yashar’el murmured against Mosheh and against Aharon: and the whole assembly said unto them: Would to Elohiym that we had died in the land of Mitsrayim! or would to Elohiym we had died in this wilderness! 3 And wherefore has Yahuah brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our women and our children should be a prey? Were it not better for us to return into Mitsrayim? 4 And they said one to another: Let us make a captain and let us return into Mitsrayim. 5 Then Mosheh and Aharon fell on their faces before all the assembly of the multitude of the children of Yashar’el.

6 And Yahusha the son of Nun, and Kalev the son of Yephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: 7 And they spoke unto all the company of the children of Yashar’el, saying: The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. 8 If Yahuah delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flows with milk and honey. 9 Only rebel not ye against Yahuah, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is departed from them, and Yahuah is with us: fear them not. 10 But all the assembly bade stone them with stones. And the glory of Yahuah appeared in the Tabernacle of the assembly before all the children of Yashar’el.

11 And Yahuah said unto Mosheh: How long will this people provoke me? And how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have showed among them? 12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a greater nation and mightier than they.

13 And Mosheh said unto El-Yahuah: Then the Mitsriym shall hear it, (for you brought up this people in your might from among them;) 14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that you Yahuah are among this people, that you Yahuah are seen face to face, and that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.

15 Now if you shall kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying: 16 Because Yahuah was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore seven oaths unto them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness. 17 And now, I beseech you, let the power of my Adonai be great, according as you have spoken, saying: 18 Yahuah is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. 19 Pardon, I beseech you, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of your mercy, and as you have forgiven this people, from Mitsrayim even until now. 20 And Yahuah said, I have pardoned according to your word: 21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of Yahuah. 22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Mitsrayim and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; 23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore seven oaths unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: 24 But my servant Kalev, because he had another ruach with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it. 25 (Now the Amaleqiym and the Kena`aniym dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.

26 And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh and unto El-Aharon, saying: 27 How long shall I bear with this evil assembly, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Yashar’el, which they murmur against me. 28 Say unto them: As truly as I live, says Yahuah, as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you: 29 Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me, 30 Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, save Kalev the son of Yephunneh, and Yahusha the son of Nun. 31 But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised. 32 But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcasses be wasted in the wilderness. 34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. 35 I Yahuah have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil assembly, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die. 36 And the men, which Mosheh sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the assembly to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, 37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before Yahuah. 38 But Yahusha the son of Nun, and Kalev the son of Yephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still. 39 And Mosheh told these sayings unto all the children of Yashar’el: and the people mourned greatly.

40 And they rose up early in the morning and got them up into the top of the mountain, saying: Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which Yahuah has promised: for we have sinned. 41 And Mosheh said: Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of Yahuah? But it shall not prosper. 42 Go not up, for Yahuah is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies. 43 For the Amaleqiym and the Kena`aniym are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from Yahuah, therefore Yahuah will not be with you. 44 But they presumed to go up unto the hilltop: nevertheless the Ark of the Covenant of Yahuah, and Mosheh, departed not out of the camp. 45 Then the Amaleqiym came down, and the Kena`aniym which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Chormah.

Chapter 15

And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh, saying: 2 Speak unto the children of Yashar’el, and say unto them: When ye are come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you, 3 And will make an offering by fire unto Yahuah, an ascending smoke offering, or a sacrifice in performing a vow, or in a freewill offering, or in your solemn feasts, to make a sweet savor unto Yahuah, of the herd, or of the flock: 4 Then shall he that offers his offering unto Yahuah bring an oblation of a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of a hin of oil. 5 And the fourth part of a hin of wine for a drink offering shall you prepare with the ascending smoke offering or sacrifice, for one lamb. 6 Or for a ram, you shall prepare for an oblation two tenth deals of flour mingled with the third part of a hin of oil. 7 And for a drink offering you shall offer the third part of a hin of wine, for a sweet savor unto Yahuah. 8 And when you prepare a bullock for an ascending smoke offering, or for a sacrifice in performing a vow, or peace offerings unto Yahuah: 9 Then shall he bring with a bullock an oblation of three tenth deals of flour mingled with half a hin of oil. 10 And you shall bring for a drink offering half a hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto Yahuah. 11 Thus shall it be done for one bullock, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or a kid. 12 According to the number that ye shall prepare, so shall ye do to everyone according to their number. 13 All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto Yahuah. 14 And if a stranger sojourn with you, or whosoever be among you in your generations, and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto Yahuah; as ye do, so he shall do. 15 One ordinance shall be both for you of the assembly, and also for the stranger that sojourns with you, an ordinance forever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before Yahuah. 16 One Torah and one manner of law shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourns with you.

17 And Yahuah spoke unto Mosheh, saying: 18 Speak unto the children of Yashar’el, and say unto them: When ye come into the land whither I bring you, 19 Then it shall be, that, when ye eat of the bread of the land, ye shall offer up a heave offering unto Yahuah. 20 Ye shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for a heave offering: as ye do the heave offering of the threshing floor, so shall ye heave it. 21 Of the first of your dough ye shall give unto Yahuah a heave offering in your generations.

22 And if ye have erred, and not observed את all these commandments, which Yahuah has spoken unto Mosheh, 23 Even את all that Yahuah has commanded you by the hand of Mosheh, from the day that Yahuah commanded Mosheh, and henceforward among your generations; 24 Then it shall be, if ought be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the assembly, that all the assembly shall offer one young bullock for an ascending smoke offering, for a sweet savor unto Yahuah, with his oblation, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one kid of the goats for a sin offering. 25 And the priest shall make an atonement for all the assembly of the children of Yashar’el, and it shall be forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto Yahuah, and their sin offering before Yahuah, for their ignorance: 26 And it shall be forgiven all the assembly of the children of Yashar’el, and the stranger that sojourns among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.

27 And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering. 28 And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sins ignorantly, when he sins by ignorance before Yahuah, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him. 29 Ye shall have one Torah for him that sins through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Yashar’el, and for the stranger that sojourns among them.

30 But the soul that does ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproaches Yahuah; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 31 Because he has despised the Word of Yahuah, and has broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.

32 And while the children of Yashar’el were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the Shabbath. 33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto El-Mosheh and El-Aharon, and unto all the assembly. 34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him. 35 And Yahuah said unto Mosheh: The man shall be surely put to death: all the assembly shall stone him with stones without the camp. 36 And all the assembly brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as Yahuah commanded Mosheh.

37 And Yahuah spoke unto El-Mosheh, saying: 38 Speak unto the children of Yashar’el, and bid them that they make them tsiytsith in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the tsiytsith of the borders a ribband of blue: 39 And it shall be unto you a tsiytsith, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of Yahuah, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: 40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your Elohiym. 41 I am Yahuah Elohaykem, which brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, to be your Elohiym: I am Yahuah Elohaykem.

Haftorah: Yahusha (Joshua) 2:1-24

And Yahusha the son of Nun sent out of Shittiym two men to spy secretly, saying: Go view the land, even Yeriycho. And they went, and came into a harlot's house, named Rachav, and lodged there. 2 And it was told the king of Yeriycho, saying: Behold, there came men in hither tonight of the children of Yashar’el to search out the country. 3 And the king of Yeriycho sent unto Rachav, saying: Bring forth the men that are come to you, which are entered into your house: for they have come to search out all the country. 4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus: There came men unto me, but I knew not whence they were: 5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I know not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them. 6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof. 7 And the men pursued after them the way to the Yardan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

8 And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof; 9 And she said unto the men, I know that Yahuah has given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. 10 For we have heard את how Yahuah dried up the water of the Red Sea for you, when ye came out of Mitsrayim; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Emoriym, that were on the other side of the Yardan, Ciychon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain anymore courage in any man, because of you: for Yahuah Elohaykem, he is Elohiym in heaven above, and in earth beneath. 12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear seven oaths unto me by Yahuah, since I have showed you kindness, that ye will also show kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true sign: 13 And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. 14 And the men answered her: Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when Yahuah has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you. 15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. 16 And she said unto them: Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way. 17 And the men said unto her: We will be blameless of this your seven oaths which you have made us swear. 18 Behold, when we come into the land, you shall bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which you did let us down by: and you shall bring your father, and your mother, and your brethren, and את all your father's household, home unto you. 19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. 20 And if you utter this our business, then we will be free of your seven oaths which you have made us to swear. 21 And she said: According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window. 22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way but found them not.

23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to El-Yahusha the son of Nun and told him את all things that befell them: 24 And they said unto El-Yahusha: Truly Yahuah has delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

Besorah: Marqus (Mark) 10:1-45

And he arose from thence and came into the coasts of Yahud by the farther side of the Yardan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.

2 And the Parashiym came to him, and asked him: Is it Lawful for a man to put away his woman? Tempting him. 3 And he answered and said unto them: What did Mosheh command you? 4 And they said, Mosheh suffered to write a cepher of divorcement, and to put her away. 5 And Yahusha answered and said unto them: For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 6 But from the beginning of the creation Elohiym made them male and female.

7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his woman; 8 And they two shall be one flesh:

so then they are no more two, but one flesh. 9 What את therefore Elohiym has joined together, let not man put asunder. 10 And in the house his Talmidiym asked him again of the same matter. 11 And he said unto them: Whosoever shall put away his woman, and marry another, breaks wedlock against her. 12 And if a woman shall put away her man, and be married to another, she breaks wedlock.

13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his Talmidiym rebuked those that brought them. 14 But when Yahusha saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them: Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not: for of such is the Kingdom of Elohiym. 15 Amein I say unto you: Whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of Elohiym as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him: Good Rabbi, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 18 And Yahusha said unto him: Why do you call me good? There is none good but one, that is, Elohiym. 19 You know the commandments,

Do not break wedlock,

Do not kill,

Do not steal,

Do not bear false witness,

Defraud not,

Honor your father and your mother.

20 And he answered and said unto him: Rabbi, all these have I observed from my youth. 21 Then Yahusha beholding him loved him and said unto him: One thing you lack: go your way, sell whatsoever you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, take up your cross, and follow me. 22 And he was sad at that saying: and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

23 And Yahusha looked round about and said unto his Talmidiym: How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the Kingdom of Elohiym! 24 And the Talmidiym were astonished at his words. But Yahusha answered again, and said unto them: Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of Elohiym! 25 It is easier for a rope to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of Elohiym. 26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves: Who then can be saved? 27 And Yahusha looking upon them said: With men it is impossible, but not with Elohiym: for with Elohiym all things are possible.

28 Then Kepha began to say unto him: Lo, we have left all, and have followed you. 29 And Yahusha answered and said: Amein I say unto you: There is no man that has left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or woman, or children, or lands, את for my sake, and the Besorah's, 30 But he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

32 And they were in the way going up to Yerushalayim; and Yahusha went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him, 33 Saying: Behold, we go up to Yerushalayim; and the Son of A’dam shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the other nations: 34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

35 And Ya`aqov and Yochanon, the sons of Zavdiy, come unto him, saying: Rabbi, we would that you should do for us whatsoever we shall desire. 36 And he said unto them: What would ye that I should do for you? 37 They said unto him: Grant unto us that we may sit, one on your right hand, and the other on your left hand, in your glory. 38 But Yahusha said unto them: Ye know not what את ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? And be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39 And they said unto him: We can. And Yahusha said unto them: Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: 40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared. 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with Ya`aqov and Yochanon. 42 But Yahusha called them to him and said unto them: Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the other nations exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. 43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: 44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. 45 For even the Son of A’dam came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
