As we have discussed just previously, the remarrying of a spouse who was divorced is considered an abomination under the word of YAHUAH. Let’s consider the words of Yermiyahu in regard to the house of Yisra’el.
Yermiyahu (Jeremiah) 3:1
They say: If a man put away his woman, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? Shall not that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, says YAHUAH.
This statement is so much more blessed than can be readily understood on first reading. For YAHUAH had declared himself to be a man (husband) unto Yisrael:
Yermiyahu (Jeremiah) 31:31-32
Behold, the days come, says YAHUAH, that I will make a Renewed Covenant with the את (eth)-house of Yisra’el, and with the את (eth)-house of Yahudah: 32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsrayim; which my covenant they broke, although I was a man unto them, says YAHUAH:
However, YAHUAH would not maintain this status, as we see spelled out in chapter 3:
Yermiyahu (Jeremiah) 3:2-8
Lift up your eyes unto the high places, and see where you have not been lien with. In the ways have you sat for them, as the Araviy in the wilderness; and you have polluted the land with your whoredoms and with your wickedness. 3 Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there has been no latter rain; and you had a whore's forehead, you refused to be ashamed. 4 Will you not from this time cry unto me, My Father, you are the guide of my youth? 5 Will he reserve his anger forever? Will he keep it to the end? Behold, you have spoken and done evil things as you could. 6 YAHUAH said also unto me in the days of Yo’shiyahu the king, Have you seen that which backsliding Yisra’el has done? She is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there has played the harlot. 7 And I said after she had done all these things, Turn you unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Yahudah saw it. 8 And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Yisra’el broke wedlock I had put her away, and given her a cepher of divorce.
Yermiyahu then goes on to give us a prophecy which is consistent with the other prophecies given concerning the ultimate disposition of the house of Yisra’el.
Yermiyahu (Jeremiah) 5:15-19
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Yisra’el, says YAHUAH: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you know not, neither understand what they say. 16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men. 17 And they shall eat up your harvest, and your bread, which your sons and your daughters should eat: they shall eat up your flocks and your herds: they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees: they shall impoverish your fenced cities, wherein you trusted, with the sword. 18 Nevertheless in those days, says YAHUAH, I will not make a full end with you. 19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore does YAHUAH our ELOHIYM all these things unto us? Then shall you answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
The prophecy continues:
Yermiyahu (Jeremiah) 6:9-17
Thus says YAHUAH TSEVA’OT, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Yisra’el as a vine: turn back your hand as a grape-gatherer into the baskets. 10 To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the Word of YAHUAH is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it. 11 Therefore I am full of the fury of YAHUAH; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the man with the woman shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days. 12 And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and women together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, says YAHUAH. 13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them everyone is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest everyone deals falsely. 14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. 15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? Nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, says YAHUAH. 16 Thus says YAHUAH, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein. 17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the shofar. But they said, We will not hearken
Consider that YAH will stretch out his hand upon the inhabitants of the land, as he has indicated in Yesha’yahu 9 and 10 (“his hand is stretched out still”). Consider that this judgment comes because they had committed abomination, as was prophesized by Moshe before.
Last, as we consider this prophecy, let us consider these words of YAH, saying Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. So what is the good way? Better, who is the good way?
Yahuchanon (John) 14:6
YAHUSHA said unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.
And should Yisra’el walk in this way, they shall find rest for their souls.
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 11:28
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Consider the words of Yermiyahu as to what YAHUAH will bring to this house of Yisra’el, this nation called Yasharon, the children of Ya’akov.
Yermiyahu (Jeremiah) 6:18-30
Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O assembly, what is among them. 19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my Torah, but rejected it. 20 To what purpose comes there to me incense from Sheva, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me. 21 Therefore thus says YAHUAH, Behold, I will lay stumbling blocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish. 22 Thus says YAHUAH, Behold, a people comes from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth. 23 They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against you, O daughter of Tsiyon. 24 We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish has taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail. 25 Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side. 26 O daughter of my people, gird you with sackcloth, and wallow yourself in ashes: make you mourning, as for a yachiyd, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us. 27 I have set you for a tower and a fortress among my people that you may know and try their way. 28 They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters. 29 The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melts in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away. 30 Reprobate silver shall men call them, because YAHUAH has rejected them.
Thus sayeth Yermiyahu.
